The term “Biopharmaceuticals”
was introduced in the 1980s and refers to pharmaceuticals produced by
biotechnological processes using molecular biology techniques and is different
from the term biologics, which are pharmaceuticals produced using conventional
biological methods. Since their inception in 1982, biopharmaceutical
medications have transformed the treatment of a wide range of diseases and are
now utilized in almost every discipline of medicine. The Biopharmaceuticals
industry has grown significantly faster than the overall medicine market in
recent years, and it is expected to continue to grow rapidly due to the
enormous demand for these drugs. The Biopharmaceuticals department of the
institute is offering a two-year M.Tech. degree in Biopharmaceuticals. Students
are trained in various aspects of Biopharmaceuticals and biogenerics,
Preparation and Characterisation of Biopharmaceuticals, Next-generation
vaccines like mRNA vaccines, Omics in Drug Discovery, Molecular Biology, Cell
Biology, Ethics and Regulatory Aspects of Biopharmaceuticals, Molecular basis
of Gene Therapy, etc.
